About Me

At Main Quad, Stanford University

At Main Quad, Stanford University (2009): Visiting Student @Dept. of Sociology, Stanford University.

Dear friends and readers,

Welcome to my personal blog, a place where I share some of my thoughts and experiences. People live because they think, act, feel, and believe and so do I. Making (some of) them public is a way to get feedback from those who read. At least, I can share something to the public.

My name is Neil Rupidara. I am an Associate Professor of HRM at Bhakti Semesta Polytechnic in Salatiga, Central Java, Indonesia. I previously work at Dept. of Management, Satya Wacana Christian University also located in Salatiga, Central Java, Indonesia. My specific area of research interests is Strategic International Human Resource Management. It is an application of Strategic HRM in the context of multinational companies (MNCs). Within this particular area, my main research interest is around the development of HR systems within subsidiaries of multinational companies, which was started from my PhD research on the configuration of HR system within multinational subsidiaries in Indonesia. Later I did studies on the diffusion and adoption of HR practices, for example on the widely spread of the role HR Business Partner among firms in Indonesia. A current research I had was on the HRM role in open innovation, based on the research of a doctoral student I supervised (see e.g. Arsanti, Rupidara, and Bondarouk, 2022). I have some other publications outside my main research interests, including a few other aspects in HRM, organization studies, leadership, and some institutional aspects in higher education and development studies.

In conducting my research, major theoretical frameworks that I employ are the resource-based view of the firm (RBV), institutional theory, social identity theory, and of micro-politics of actors. I however open myself to learn from other perspectives.

I  graduated from Macquarie University in North Ryde, New South Wales, Australia. I submitted my PhD thesis in Sept 2011 and completed the examination in December 2011. Some journal articles and book chapters have been published from the PhD research, in Human Resource Management Review, Journal of Industrial Relations, Journal of Asia Business Studies, International Research Journal of Business Studies, and Oxford Handbook of Contextual Approach to HRM. I attended and presented papers in a number of HRM conferences such as IHRM Conference and Dutch HRM Network.
